Dhaka, Bangladesh : September 2005

Am just back from my business trip to Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was for our quarterly business review and planning for the Asia Whitespace group. I spent 3 days and 2 nights in Dhaka. The country and the city are so poor. They have the highest density on the planet. People squeeze to each other. Beggars are normal sight in Dhaka. People commute by taking buses, taxis, three-wheelers or rickshaws.

The men wear longyi [spelled : loong-gee], similar to Burmese longyi or Malay/Indonesian sarong. Women wear saris. Even though Bangladesh population is mainly muslim, I did not see so much of muslim wear amongst the women.

On the first Day after my Thai Airways landing, we went straight to the the upscale Sheraton Dhaka. The value for money was nothing compared to Hilton Colombo, even worse compared to Intercontinental Phnom Penh which offers terrific service with a much lower price. Had a nice meal for lunch, then proceeded immediately to one of the biggest markets in Dhaka to see laundry execution. I take some pictures of rickshaw and the market situation post office hour.
On the second Day, it was nothing but whole day meeting and meeting. Lunch was great. Indian food, but not so Indian :)

On the third Day, I and my collegue (MSL) who is based in Colombo were back to our base. He travelled via Bangkok so he joined me in the same Thai flight. The airport was splendid, it was designed by a famous architect Louis Kahn.
