Semalam di Malaysia...

On our way to go back home to Jakarta, we stopped by Kuala Lumpur. After 2 hours Air Asia flight, we landed safely at 18.20 in the modern and sophisticated Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). We went to taxi counter, bought a round-trip ticket of 67.4 Ringgit (airport to city), and 58.4 Ringgit (city to airport). Taxi ride took about 1 hour as KLIA was located in the suburb. We arrived at Sheraton Hotel which was strategically located in prime business district, within close proximity to Monorail station and Dang Wangi Train station. Post checking-in, we wandered around and stumbled upon a traditional food house where we had our dinner, traditional Malay Penang Char Kwaytiaw plus a couple of Teh Tarik. Then..., we took train to China Town (Jalan Petaling). It was a bustling night bazaar with specialties to offer: souvenirs, clothes, food. At night, we took train to go back to hotel as we decided not to take taxis (all the taxi drivers we encountered did not want to use their meters, instead had their own inflated rates).

April 8, 2005The day started with visiting the Petronas Towers, amongst the tallest towers in the world (491.9 m). We took the train and were alight at KLCC station. We had chance to rise up to the skybridge level (nobody is allowed to go to the peak). Our visit to the Skybridge was accompanied by an English speaking guide. There was no Entry fee and we did not have any issues with queue as it was weekday. The story would be different during weekends. We also went around the park around the tower complex.
We proceeded by train again to having our walking tour in the old city center which started from Masjid Jamek (Jamek Mosque), KL's most picturesque mosque with a delightful Moghul design. Then, we went to Dataran Merdeka, which lies in front of Sultan Abdul Samad's Building, a unique blend of Victorian and Moorish art. In the afternoon, we took the monorail to go to Bukit Bintang shopping streets. We had our quick lunch at a small food stall near the monorail station. We continued along the streets, passed thru several upscale shopping malls, protected from the rain in the outside.
The journey continued to Central Market (near Pasar Seni Train Station), a unique market dedicated to selling handicraft (batik, keris, sculptures, etc) and souvenirs. It had a fancy art-deco design surrounded by colonial-styled buildings/shop houses. We bought a couple of souvenirs of Mini Petronas Towers for friends and family. The price was definitely way much cheaper than the ones sold in Petronas complex, and we could even bargain more. Speak Malay or Indonesian to get even rock bottom cheaper price :-) In the evening, we went back to see the illuminated Petronas, took pictures of them and explored the huge Suria KLCC shopping mall just under the tower. We had our dinner in KFC in this mall and bought some snacks for late night supper.

April 9, 2005Take away breakfast at food stall. Our taxi was ready in front the hotel, 15 minutes prior to departing time. Another 1 hour to the airport, and Jakarta... here we come !
